Fluently (“we,” “us,” or “our”) operates the Fluently Chrome extension and the website at usefluently.app. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your choices regarding your data.

1. Information We Collect

Account Information

When you create an account, we collect your email address to authenticate you via a one-time password (OTP). We do not collect your name, phone number, or other personal details.

User Preferences

We store your extension preferences locally on your device using Chrome's storage API. This includes your target language, caption appearance settings (font size, color, position), and display preferences. This data never leaves your browser.

Translation History

When you translate a video, we store the YouTube video ID, video title, target language, and duration on our servers. This is used to track your usage against your plan limits and to display your recent translation history within the extension.

YouTube Video Content

Fluently accesses YouTube video captions on pages you visit in order to generate translated subtitles. Caption text is sent to our backend for AI-powered translation and is not stored beyond the duration of the translation request.

2. How We Use Your Information

  • Authentication: Your email address is used solely to sign you in and manage your account.
  • Providing the service: Video captions are processed to generate accurate translations displayed on the YouTube player.
  • Usage tracking: Translation history is used to enforce plan limits (free tier video count, monthly minutes for paid plans) and show you your recent activity.
  • Billing: Your subscription tier is used to determine feature access and usage limits.

3. Data Storage & Security

  • Local storage: User preferences and session tokens are stored in Chrome's local storage on your device.
  • Server-side storage: Account data and translation history are stored securely using Supabase with row-level security policies.
  • Encryption in transit: All communication between the extension and our servers uses HTTPS.

4. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services:

  • Supabase: For user authentication and secure data storage.
  • Stripe: For payment processing. When you subscribe to a paid plan, you are redirected to Stripe's hosted checkout page. We do not collect, store, or have access to your credit card number or payment details — Stripe handles this directly.

5. Data Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties for advertising or marketing purposes. We only share data with service providers (Supabase, Stripe) as necessary to operate the service, and as required by law.

6. Your Rights

You may at any time:

  • Access your data: View your email and translation history within the extension.
  • Delete your account: Contact us at contact@usefluently.app to request deletion of your account and all associated data.
  • Uninstall the extension: Removing the extension deletes all locally stored data from your browser.

7. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you by updating the effective date at the top of this page. Continued use of the extension after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
